ABOUT US Having a love for historic homes, we purchased our own piece of history in the fall of 2000, known as the Jacob Hess House, ca. 1768. The Hess house is located in the historic district of Keedysville, Maryland. During the first several years of living in this historic house, we took on the task of restoration. Now in 2009 the house is stabilized, though restoration continues and will for years to come. In 2003, I began to experiment making candles with recycled wax for our own pleasure at home. Eventually, together with a friend, we developed an 18th century candle making interpretation. We now participate in local living history events, demonstrating the candle making process and discussing techniques from the past.
Several years later I began making candles from beeswax. After seeing how clean and long these beeswax candles burned, my husband and I decided to start our own small, home based business. Hence, "Millhouse Candles" was established in 2006. We make our beeswax candles much in the same way that they would have been made during colonial times. Using only 100% pure beeswax, we melt and clean the beeswax, pouring it individually into hand-crafted tin molds, made by local tinsmiths. Though our 9" and 6" beeswax candles were our first products sold, we have since added to our product line and continue to add new and creative items. At Millhouse Candles we take pride and care in making our candles and other specialty products. If you have purchased some of our beeswax candles or other products, we welcome your comments. Or if you would like to be added to our mailing list, let us know by contacting us at info@millhousecandles.com.
